Arend D. Verweij
Chief Executive Officer
Arend Verweij brings over 30 years’ executive experience successfully growing both large and small high technology businesses — including a five-year tour as an investment banker specializing in high-tech corporate finance and M&A.
In 2013, Arend co-founded Insight Innovations and serves as its CEO. During that time, he has brought the Company from startup to producing and commercializing its next-generation, cloud-based Identity and Access Management as a Service solutions (IDaaS) software program.
In 2010, he was recruited to turnaround Bhold BV, a Netherlands-based Access and Identity Management software company. In less than three years, Arend raised capital, refocused the company and eventually sold the program and related IP to Microsoft for a substantial (undisclosed) cash sum. MS continues to support the BHOLD program to date.
Beginning in 2006, he served as CEO of the Barcelona-based Cluster Competitiveness Group, one of the world’s leading economic development consultancies where he worked with international development banks and organizations dedicated to economic growth globally. Under his leadership the firm raised capital, successfully expanded its business in Europe and expanded into South America.
Previously, Arend served for five years as Managing Director and Executive Vice President in charge of vFinance Consulting, a prominent boutique investment bank serving emerging growth companies. He opened its Northern California office, and successfully closed numerous M&A deals, financings and consulting assignments for high tech clients.
Prior, he was recruited as CEO to turnaround Diablo Research, a venture-backed Silicon Valley-based tech company. There, he successfully raised new capital, entered new markets, and returned the company to profitability through intelligent re-sizing the company and divesting non-core businesses. Within 24 months, he engineered Diablo’s profitable sale to Cadence Design Systems.
Earlier, Arend began his career with Philips Electronics at its European headquarters. He finished his 15-year tour with Philips as General Manager, with P&L responsibility, for Philip Components North America, a Division with more than $1 billion in revenue. Previously at Philips, he held various positions in R&D, technology management and strategic planning. There, he was responsible for the US commercialization of Philips’ vast intellectual property with which he built a profitable $300 million business. He also helped lead the standardization and introduction of CD-ROM technology and other optical disk formats.
Arend earned a Master’s Degree in Science in Mechanical Engineering/Metallurgy at Twente University of Technology (Netherlands) and a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Rochester, NY. In 2002, he received US NASD Series 7, 63 and 24 securities licenses. He speaks, reads and writes three languages.
